Engineer raises questions about 19 Dearborn road-opening permit requested after paving

Engineer Tom told the council the borough had received a road-opening permit request for 19 Dearborn after the street had been paved and that it appeared PSE&G wanted to open the road for a utility upgrade. Tom recommended setting a uniform trench width (for example 10 or 20 feet) and, if possible, directing the utility to work behind the curb rather than across the paved street.
A resident who said he is involved with the property owner for the adjacent redevelopment, Daniel Evar, told the council he had not been told whether the utility service was being upsized and that the permit was requested without an explanation. The council agreed to table the permit until the engineer and staff can obtain clarification from PSE&G and share contact information with the resident for follow-up.
Tom said he would email the utility the next morning and report back; no permit action was taken at the meeting.
