Council approves addition of Veterans Memorial wall, reduces pathway scope

The council approved a change to Phase 2 of the Veterans Memorial project that replaces a planned paver pathway and associated landscaping and benches with an additional memorial wall located near the existing wall. Staff said the contractor had purchased some materials and the net contract change would reduce cost by roughly $23,162 compared with the original scope.
Mayor explained the idea originated from veterans attending the last memorial event who preferred an additional wall so names could face forward during ceremonies. "There was no less than six people that asked me about this... I think it's gonna be well received," the mayor said. Council approved the change order by motion; staff will coordinate final wording and design elements for the new wall as construction continues.
