The City Council approved an award for the Swarthout and Legacy basketball court projects to the lowest responsive bidder, Cactus Desert Construction, for $199,500 plus a $20,000 contingency. Community services director Adriana Nava presented the three bids received, explained the project scope (court repairs, ADA improvements and a water fountain at Swarthout; a half court at Legacy Park) and said the low bidder's references and license were verified.
"Staff is recommending the award of bid to Cactus Desert Construction in the amount of 199,500 and a contingency amount in the amount of $20,000," Adriana said. Council members asked staff to confirm the bidder's experience with flatwork and to note that the city is bound to award to the lowest responsive, qualified bidder under public contract code. A motion to accept the bid passed on the council floor as recorded in the meeting transcript.
