Council and staff used the July 22 meeting to recognize Councilmember Richard Leon, who is leaving the council after eight years of service. Colleagues praised Leon's neighborhood-focused projects, including completed general obligation bond projects in his district and efforts such as youth night camp and street improvements.
Several speakers thanked Leon for his service. The city manager said Leon's district had completed its bond projects, and colleagues recalled his hands-on approach. Leon reflected on community projects and partnerships, noting, "That's why the Residents First agenda was to get a conversation going... now my colleagues have to finish that work that I've started," and thanked staff and residents for their collaboration.
Council members and staff gave Leon a round of applause and best wishes during the meeting's closing remarks; the council then moved to adjourn.
