Commission hears status of city entry and downtown wayfinding sign efforts

Staff briefed commissioners on multiple sign efforts intended to strengthen Fillmore’s identity. Kevin said downtown merchants have asked for a downtown wayfinding sign and the city has hired a consultant to develop a design that would point people into downtown. Separately, a 2.5‑acre Trestle Way entry concept — previously reviewed by the planning commission — includes a water‑tower motif with the Fillmore logo, a park‑like setting and a possible caboose if funding is available.
"That will hopefully be approved sometime by Christmas, and then maybe by, spring, they'll start construction," Kevin said of the Trestle Way entry, but he stressed that final design and funding remain unresolved and that the city council would make the ultimate decision on funding and implementation.
No formal approvals or funding commitments were made at the workshop; staff said the downtown sign work is at the design stage and would follow the normal review process.
