Residents and event operators clash over proposed event rules; both sides urge clarity

Operators — owners of large estates and established event venues — urged the commission to create a predictable permitting pathway so that long‑standing, taxpaying venues can continue to host scheduled weddings and other events without months of uncertainty. Several operators said they already meet sanitation and security conditions (temporary restrooms, security guards) and asked for a streamlined annual or CUP process rather than per‑event permitting. Other operators warned that overly prescriptive rules could force events to neighboring cities and reduce local TOT revenue. The commission heard both viewpoints and voted to continue the item for more outreach and staff revisions.
