At a Bastrop City Council meeting, members approved Resolution 26-2140 directing staff to re-advertise a bridge repair project for bids after city staff reported it could not locate an executed resolution from a prior sales-tax meeting held last June.
A council member who spoke to the record explained the need for tonight’s action: "You voted to let it out for bid, but there was not a resolution that we could find that was executed," the committee member said, describing the engineer’s earlier presentation and the absence of an executed document in the meeting packets. Councilors said they want the advertisement posted per legal notice requirements and also promoted on the city website and social media channels to reach local contractors.
Councilors pressed staff on the project timeline and past recordkeeping. One council member said, "We've got to be better about our business," urging faster follow-up after engineers identify a need. Council discussion placed the bridge out of service roughly four to five years ago, and staff reported that, if the bidding and procurement proceed on schedule, work could begin in the fall months.
The chair moved the resolution to re-advertise the project; a roll call was taken and the motion passed. The resolution directs staff to proceed with public notice and the bid process; no contract award or construction contract was approved at the meeting.
