City to accept $200,000 state grant for Sunset Dunes striping and signage

Rec and Park staff asked the committee to retroactively authorize acceptance and expenditure of a $200,000 grant from the California Department of Parks and Recreation for the Sunset Dunes Striping and Signage Project (performance period 07/01/2025–06/30/2028). Caitlin Hall (partnerships and capital associate) and project manager Alex Shuknecht described new crosswalk striping, yield stencils and permanent signage to clarify multi‑use zones and improve accessibility.
"The safety improvements will be focused on the East side as that's where cyclists, e‑bikes, and e‑scooters are allowed," Shuknecht said, noting yield markings and lane narrowing are intended to slow cyclists near crosswalks. If approved by the board, staff plan to put the work out to bid in the coming months and hope to complete before the end of the year. The committee forwarded the resolution to the full board with a positive recommendation (3 ayes).
