Geneva-on-the-Lake council accepts $83,809 AFG grant, authorizes equipment bids and applications for engine, pagers and PPE

Geneva-on-the-Lake council on July 20 accepted a FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) award of $83,809.00 and unanimously approved motions to pursue additional AFG funding and to solicit bids for new equipment.
At the meeting Council read and acted on Resolution 2026-45 to accept the $83,809 AFG payment (received Sept. 24, 2025) and then moved to authorize applications for AFG funds for the replacement of Engine 291 (Resolution 2026-46), MARCS pagers (Resolution 2026-47) and personal protective equipment (Resolution 2026-48). Council also considered Ordinance 2026-44 to authorize the Village Administrator, Mayor and/or Fire Chief to advertise for and solicit bids for self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBAs). In each case Council Member Macchia moved, Council President Caudill seconded, and roll-call votes were recorded as unanimous yes.
Assistant Fire Chief Alex Pope told Council the department is hiring five new members and is planning a children’s Halloween event; he also said planning for Thunder event safety and coordination with police worked well during recent events. Those operational details and the equipment requests were presented as part of the justification for seeking and accepting AFG funding.
Council did not record any dissent on the emergency motions to waive three readings and act immediately. The approvals allow staff to proceed with bid solicitation and grant applications; next steps include formal bid solicitations and any grant application paperwork the Mayor, Village Administrator or Fire Chief must sign.
