Burlington honors FFA winner and cross-country state qualifiers at board meeting

The Burlington board meeting on Oct. 22 featured a staff and student spotlight that highlighted recent extracurricular achievements. Superintendent Gerrett Spears announced that Maddox Morgan won the Fairview FFA Greenhand competition and qualified for state, and said the high-school cross-country girls will compete at state this weekend. Spears credited coaches Carrie Dotson and Lindsey Morgan with intensive recruiting and training that enabled full teams to compete.
"The recruiting efforts on the coaches' part were amazing. They were able to put together a full boys team after being very unsure about participants at the beginning of the season," Spears said. He praised the students' commitment to practices across seasons and the coaches' work putting together workouts, coordinating times and making themselves available twice daily. The board recognized the team members by name during the spotlight.
