Burlington board approves FY26 expenditure budget; finance report shows steady outlook

The Burlington Public Schools Board of Education voted 3–0 Oct. 22 to approve the district's FY26 expenditure budget. The motion to approve was made by Board President Terry Graham and seconded by Callie Pray; Lindsey Callison also voted yea. Two members, Robert Hill and April Kisling, were absent.
Superintendent Gerrett Spears told the board the district is operating on a flat budget and staff are working to avoid using carryover while ensuring teachers and students have necessary resources. "We are still on a flat budget, working to not eat into our carryover, but ensuring that students and teachers have what they need," Spears said. He added the district is receiving monthly income and expected property-tax revenue soon, which improves the near-term outlook compared with this time last year.
The board also approved encumbrances and warrants for September during the same business block: General Fund encumbrances $4,316.20; General Fund change orders $5,844.45; General Fund warrants $206,309.02; Building Fund warrants $28,582.83; Child Nutrition Fund warrants $5,868.59. The motion to approve those items passed by the same 3'0 margin.
