Cemetery committee OKs formal request to Chickasaw Nation for cattle-brand marker at Silver City Cemetery

The Tuttle Cemetery Advisory Committee voted unanimously Jan. 20 to authorize staff to submit a formal request to the Chickasaw Nation asking the tribe to provide a marker at Silver City Cemetery displaying cattle brands associated with “the Chickasaw Rancher.” Wendy Marble, a staff member, told the committee that Jo Bazhaw has been in contact with the tribe and that the Chickasaw Nation requires a formal request from the committee to proceed.
Sheri Welch moved to approve the request and Deanna Hardesty Glazier seconded; the motion carried with all three members present voting aye (Welch, Hardesty Glazier and Chair Connie Delno). Marble said she will forward the formal request to the Deputy Secretary of the Chickasaw Nation to move the project forward.
