Canton board extends superintendent’s contract and accepts staff release after executive session

The motion to accept that recommendation was made by Mr. Peter Brown, seconded by Mr. Lenderrick Taylor and carried on a unanimous vote.
Trustees then voted to extend Superintendent Gary Hannah’s contract for the period commencing July 1, 2025 and ending June 30, 2027; the motion to extend the contract was made by Mr. Glen Lacey and seconded by Mr. Lenderrick Taylor and passed unanimously. The minutes record these as formal executive-session outcomes rather than open-session discussion items.
The board also approved a settlement in Paige Edwards v. Canton Public School District, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi, Cause No. 3:19-cv-469-HTW-LRA; the motion to approve the settlement was made by Mr. Peter Brown and seconded by Dr. Jacqueline Griffin and passed with all trustees voting Aye. The settlement and personnel actions were taken following the executive-session review of the matters.
