Principal reports 59 elementary students, new literacy and reading incentives underway

Elementary Principal Apryl Burleson told trustees that 59 students were enrolled in PK-6 and outlined classroom supports for the new school year. She said K-6 students are using Amira with a 30-minute-per-week goal and that IXL benchmarks in math and language arts have been completed for grades K-6. Burleson also described Book Taco reading incentives for grades 3-6 and a "Race to 100" challenge for grades 1-2 with stuffed-animal reading rewards.

Burleson identified two NWOSU student teachers who will support classrooms this semester (Chloe Bradt in 5th grade and Mary Tyler in kindergarten) and said the Regional Literacy Coordinator Tracy Ellison will resume visits Sept. 8. In introducing the spotlighted student, Burleson said, "Praise is a kind, responsible, and hardworking 4th grade student. She consistently shows kindness to others and maintains a positive attitude, never complaining and always showing respect to both teachers and classmates." The minutes list the student's last name inconsistently (both "Young" and "Moore" appear); the record of the meeting contains that inconsistency.
