ECO Link asks Bristow to host broadband speed survey to update maps

ECO Link–East Central Electric requested permission to distribute a household speed survey (7–11 p.m.) to update the broadband map used in rural broadband grant applications; councilmembers endorsed the effort and agreed to publicize it on water bills and the city Facebook page.
Billie Bean of ECO Link–East Central Electric asked the council to allow a door-to-door or bill-distributed household internet survey to collect speed-test data between 7:00 and 11:00 p.m. to help update the broadband availability map used by grant applicants. Mayor Kris Wyatt said the program supports companies applying for rural broadband grants and noted that the survey results will be publicly usable.
Councilmembers expressed support for the survey and asked that it be included with city water bills mailed Sept. 27 and posted on the city Hall Facebook page. The council thanked ECO Link for conducting the data collection effort, which the presenter said will improve the accuracy of broadband maps that inform grant decisions.
