Canton school board approves six personnel moves for 2025–26 school year

At a July 14, 2025 special call meeting, the Canton Public School District Board of Trustees voted to approve six personnel items for the 2025–26 school year, including reassignments and new hires across district schools.
The board approved the following personnel actions: (4.1) Cassie Bates-Huntley reassigned from teacher at Porter Middle School to Interventionist (new position); (4.2) Timetha Caldwell reassigned from teacher at Reuben B. Myers CSAS to Interventionist, replacing April Anderson; (4.3) Angela Harris recommended as a teacher for the period beginning 08/01/2025 and ending 06/02/2026, replacing Carolyn White at Porter Middle School; (4.4) Sebron Carter recommended as a teacher for 08/01/2025–06/02/2026; (4.5) Jonnas Spivey recommended as a teacher assistant for the 08/01/2025–06/02/2026 period at Canton High School, replacing Alice Evans; and (4.6) Portia Holmes recommended as a counselor for the period commencing 07/15/2025 and ending 06/10/2026, replacing Davittleah Yancey.
The motion to approve items 4.1–4.6 was made by Mr. Peter Brown and seconded by Mr. Glen Lacey. The minutes record that the motion "received the majority of the affirmative vote" and the trustees recorded votes of "Aye" from Chairman Johnny Brown, Vice-Chair Lenderrick Taylor, Secretary Glen Lacey, Mr. Peter Brown and Dr. Jacqueline Griffin. The board did not record any dissenting votes in the minutes.
The personnel approvals list effective dates and replacements where specified; Portia Holmes’s counselor appointment is recorded as beginning July 15, 2025, while multiple teacher appointments are listed with August 1, 2025 start dates and June 2, 2026 end dates.
