Board hears financial update; district reports $347,000 lower spending year-to-date

Superintendent Gerrett Spears presented a fiscal update at the Jan. 21 Burlington Public Schools board meeting, reporting that year-to-date spending is $347,000 less than the previous fiscal year. He attributed part of the reduction to staff cuts and improved preventive maintenance.
The board approved General Fund encumbrances of $5,655.00 and warrants totaling $204,713.99, and Child Nutrition warrants of $2,479.18. The motion to approve encumbrances and warrants was made by Callie Pray, seconded by Lindsey Callison, and passed unanimously (5–0).
Spears described the activity sub-account for tournaments as healthy and noted that funds collected from concessions and events will be used for field trips and library student rewards. The board also approved the December activity report by unanimous vote.
