Board hears benchmark testing results and plans to incentivize better participation

Elementary and secondary benchmark testing finished before the winter break, Burlington school officials told the board Dec. 18. Elementary classes completed IXL and Amira benchmarks; kindergarten and 1st-grade students earned $25 Amira gift cards for a reading challenge; 5th and 6th grade quiz-bowl teams each won a game and will compete again in Medford on Jan. 24.
Superintendent Gerrett Spears and staff reported that 7th—12th grade benchmark testing is complete and that Mrs. Fraire and Spears are working through the raw data to determine whether external factors affected scores. Spears said the district will consider incentives next semester to encourage students to give their best effort on these assessments.
