Superintendent Gerrett Spears updated the board Dec. 18 on athletics, saying teams had mixed results in the first semester and were preparing for a home tournament Jan. 8—10. He reported that the high school girls are 5-5 at the break (an improvement from four total wins last year) and the boys were seeded No. 2 for the tournament, which he said should be "a good tournament."
Spears described junior-high matchups as challenging because sixth graders often play up against seventh- and eighth-graders, and he said the district plans summer camps to help younger players gain experience. He thanked volunteers from Purple Pride for offering to staff hospitality and welcome baskets for visiting teams.
