Council authorizes drafting of burning-permit ordinance after fire-department review

Council members and City Attorney Beth Anne Childs discussed a proposed ordinance allowing outdoor burning within Bristow city limits. Councilmember Jeff Roberts suggested a permit fee around $20; Councilmember Judd Johns asked that permits allow flexibility if weather cancels a planned burn. Fire Chief Charles Conkling said permits should be authorized by the fire department after an on-site inspection to approve or deny a burn.
The council voted to authorize the City Attorney to revise the draft ordinance and bring it back for consideration at the Sept. 16, 2024 meeting. The recorded roll call on the motion showed Church, Fletcher, Green, Johns, Peters, Roberts and Witty voting Aye.
