Police chief reports difficulty contacting approved hire, seeks applicants

Police Chief David Pernice told the Union City Borough Council on Aug. 27 that a candidate previously approved as a new hire has not responded to outreach, and he is assuming that the person is no longer interested.
"He said he has tried to make contact but has had no luck. He is assuming he is no longer interested," Pernice reported. He said the department will reach out to the consortium list, which currently includes 32 candidates, and will check with the Civil Service Commission to set oral exams. Pernice said his long-term goal is to hire two part-time officers though only one position was approved at this time; council agreed to continue searching for one part-time officer.
The chief said he will send out letters and follow up with the consortium and Civil Service Commission to restart the recruitment process.
