Police chief reports 269 calls since June and community foundation funds tasers, cameras

The chief reported "269 calls averaging about 3.63 calls per day" from June 1 through Aug. 13 and said some calls can occupy a full shift, citing a domestic call that lasted from 8:50 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. He noted recent incidents involving suicide and mental health, vandalism and burglary. Pernice also said he and Officer Shelly attended Alert Active Shooter Training on July 24and July 25 hosted by Millcreek PD. He reported that the Union City Community Foundation awarded two grant applications: funds for four tasers and for security cameras to expand coverage on North Main Street. Council expressed appreciation for the awards and for the staffing decision earlier in the meeting.
