The committee repeatedly pressed for staffing plans and course‑level specifics for the 9th grade cohort that is expected to start under the new model in fall 2027; MCPS said much of the 9th‑grade coursework already exists and that work is underway to codify course progressions and professional development through the summer.
Separately, MCPS proposed an increase of $1,822,602 to expand summer school offerings—prioritizing in‑person delivery, regional high‑school summer sites and a six‑site Ignite Middle School Academy; MCPS reported about 1,400 middle‑school students had registered for summer programs to date but said it would try not to cap participation. Committee members requested updated staffing, transportation and equity analyses as planning continues.
