The Maquoketa City Council voted unanimously Thursday to affirm City staff directions to Big Country Properties, LLC in a Notice and Order to Abate dated May 12, 2026, and to direct staff to pursue a municipal infraction citation should the property again be found out of compliance. The motion, moved by Councilmember Collister and seconded by Councilmember Bennett, carried 6-0.
The motion states that "raking and baling the property is an Agriculture use not permitted under the Residential 1 zoning district." The council therefore affirmed staff guidance to Big Country Properties and authorized municipal-infraction enforcement if compliance is not achieved. The meeting record shows the action came after the council returned from a closed session and before the meeting adjourned at 8:18 p.m.
