Deputy Clerk-Treasurer Tammy M. Woodward presented the accounts-payable listing and supporting financial materials at the May 13 meeting; council approved the accounts-payable by roll-call vote.
The packet included extensive financial detail: SIDA reported a bank balance of $410,431.44 and certificates of deposit totaling $324,288.30; the town’s list of Truist accounts and certificates of deposit (totaling more than $200,000 in CDs) was included. The packet also listed multiple loans and lines of credit with Bank of Marion, Rural Development loans, and a VRA loan, including balances and monthly auto-pay figures.
The water-use report for April 2025 (submitted by EMS, Inc.) recorded total water pumped at 14,800,829 gallons and total water accounted for at 5,876,985 gallons, leaving 8,923,844 gallons unaccounted for — or 60.3 percent unaccounted-for water. The report listed water sold to town customers (3,122,035 gallons), Smyth County (1,710,799 gallons), Washington County (956,000 gallons) and other categories; the town noted ongoing investigations into inflow/infiltration and meter readings.
Council also received reports on debt-service accounts and upcoming loan payments; no new borrowings were approved at the meeting. The detailed financial packet is part of the public record and was attached to the meeting minutes.
