The Town of Saltville authorized its town manager to advertise a Request for Qualifications for engineering services to address wellfield piping and FEMA-related stream-crossing debris removal following recent storm impacts.
Town-contracted EMS reports provided during the meeting documented May water figures: total water pumped of 17,315,057 gallons and total water accounted for at 5,724,826 gallons, leaving a difference of 11,590,231 gallons, or "Water unaccounted for % 66.9." That high percentage of unaccounted-for water was raised as a focus for leak detection and infrastructure attention; council authorized seeking engineering help to scope repairs and improvements at multiple well and pump sites. Town Manager Rosenbaum said the wellfields piping would be the town's biggest project and that FEMA claims are being prepared for storm-related damage.
The RFQ authorization passed by roll call; public works and contracted engineers will work to scope leaks, testing, and priority repairs. Council also discussed communication improvements for outage notifications to customers and ongoing leak-detection work on Perryville Road.
