Saltville Council sets $15,000 aside for pickleball court, adopts new wave-pool prices

Council members voted May 13 to reserve $15,000 toward construction of a pickleball court behind the football stadium in the Chub Arnold sports complex and to finalize 2025 admission prices for the town’s wave pool.

Councilman Cary Sauls, who chairs the Recreation Committee, described the proposed court as roughly 30-by-60 feet and said town crews would supply labor for the surface. “It would approximately measure 30x60,” Sauls said, and the council approved a motion to set aside $15,000 pending receipt of county recreational funds. Town Manager Cecile Rosenbaum reminded the council that the county’s contribution still awaited county budget approval.

On pool operations, Sauls told council that earlier start-up repairs delayed advertising of new prices and asked the council to formalize a revised schedule of fees. By motion, council rescinded a prior $150 season-pass figure and set the individual season pass at $100. Council also approved $6 for daily admission, $300 for pool parties, and free admission for children 4 and younger. Council members noted a new pool-pass system will be implemented to track sales.

Sauls additionally raised a public-safety concern and asked staff to research automated external defibrillator (AED) pricing for the wave pool. Council approved solicitation of pricing for a defibrillator so the town can decide whether to budget a purchase ahead of opening day.

The council recorded unanimous roll-call votes on each motion. The Recreation Committee will continue to refine site plans and coordinate procurement once county funding is confirmed.
