Christina Schneider, a City of Maquoketa staff member, presented the building department's recent permit records at the Property Maintenance Board meeting on June 24.
Schneider said staff keeps a single spreadsheet of permits and a separate spreadsheet for pool permits to make lookups easier. She told the board that "pools deeper than 24 inches must have a permit and must have 48 inch barrier to restrict entry, which can be a fence or the pool wall if the ladder is removed." The clarification is intended to help contractors and homeowners understand when a permit and safety barrier are required.
Schneider also described ongoing construction of a duplex in the Prairie Creek area, noting details about its septic systems are being resolved. She summarized the septic permitting workflow: the city issues a permit when a septic system is needed, the City notifies the County Health Department, property owners and contractors work with the County for approved installation, and once County approval is complete "Alliance documents and maps the system for City records." The board received the report with no public questions.
