Public Works outlines 2026 street work: alleys, ADA ramps, manholes and mill-and-fill timing

Jon Hopson updated the committee on several ongoing Public Works projects, including alley upgrades, chip seal streets, ADA ramp work and manhole repairs.
Hopson said Struck and Urwin will upgrade alleys to a hard grade surface at the end of June; East and West Apple are being chip sealed and County Line Concrete will perform work on Quarry and Eliza Streets. He said the ADA ramps at Locust and Clark Streets "will be done at the end of the week by the Public Works Crew," and reported 10 manholes have been repaired with 10 more planned. On timing, Hopson said mill-and-fill will be done at the same time as curb-and-gutter work at the end of June. The committee discussed Allen Street; Hopson said "he is looking for guidance from the Committee on the direction to go with that street" and agreed staff can patch and grade it before Memorial Day and consider traffic restrictions or barriers to prevent cut-through truck traffic.
The committee did not take a formal vote on Allen Street direction at this meeting but recorded consensus to pursue short-term patching and report back on options for traffic control.
