Police report: two students struck; council urged to plan security after social-media events

Police Chief Randy Haugh told the council Sept. 16 that two students were struck by a student driving a car at the intersection of Bodmer Avenue and 3rd Street SW; one was on a moped and one on a motorized bicycle. Haugh said the students "are okay but very sore from the accident" and reminded the public to "please follow the speed limit in the school zone and on village streets." He also presented a $4,465 quote from Fry Heating & Cooling for a new A/C unit for the police building, which the council approved.
Mayor Bruce Metzger noted a public event advertised on social media planned for the park and asked the organizer to consider security because of concurrent fall sports activities. Legal Counsel Terry Seeberger informed the council that cemetery vigils are not permitted, describing the cemetery as a joint village–township ownership and instructing police to consult Prosecutor Steve Anderson about the proposed park event. The minutes show council directed Police Chief Haugh to contact the prosecutor in advance.
