Board approves personnel agendas; debate over transportation director posting and salary proration

The Preston County Board of Education approved both the service and professional personnel agendas at the July 24 meeting and spent substantial time on the transportation director posting and related pay calculations. Superintendent Martin explained legal counsel advised against a combined 'professional and service' posting and described how the professional posting widens the candidate pool while acknowledging seniority rules for service employees.

Martin gave numerical examples to clarify how a reduction from a 240-day contract to a 230-day contract affects pay: "With that reduction in days, that individual's slot was $54,567.12; had the contract remained at 240 days that same individual would have been paid $56,924.02," he said. Board members asked for a prorated starting-salary figure to be shown on the scale (one member suggested a $47,917 starting salary when prorated to 230 days). Superintendent Martin agreed to supply clarified, prorated figures on a follow-up agenda if desired; the personnel agendas were approved by the board.
