City Development recommended awarding a $165,312.50 contract to New Berlin Grading Inc. for asbestos abatement and demolition at the former Hillcrest School site, 4616 24th Street. Tim Casey explained the bidding process: “Put this project out to bid and we have 9 qualified bidders. New Berlin Grading, was the low of those, 9 bidders… and all in all been quite pleased with their performance.”
Casey said the department had worked with New Berlin Grading on four significant demolition projects recently and recommended accepting the low bid. The committee opened the matter for public hearing, heard no public comment, and approved the contract award 4–0. Staff did not present an alternative contractor or request additional conditions during the meeting.
