The Cameron County Board of Commissioners voted to adopt a proclamation designating October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month and highlighted an Oct. 21 celebration at the Dickinson Center in Ridgeway.
Chair (S5) introduced the proclamation, saying it recognizes "the talents and abilities that disabled individuals can contribute to the community and to the workforce" and described the Dickinson Center’s Oct. 21 event at 10 a.m. in Ridgeway to celebrate vocational successes. The proclamation was moved by Commissioner (S3), seconded by Commissioner (S2), and approved by voice vote.
Meeting commentary emphasized employment-support services and the need to be mindful of program and benefit cuts that could affect people with disabilities. S5 also noted materials the Dickinson Center provided, including a comic book and event 'save the date.'
