Garwood seeks grants and bonds to replace turf field; $158,200 in grants reported

The borough administrator reported the town has secured $158,200 in grant funding for a planned turf field replacement and outlined a funding strategy for the project. "We're recommending we use 100,000 from the athletic field trust, then we'll need the bond for an additional 80,000 or so, but we would also have to add funds for contingencies in section 20 costs," the administrator said. He added that the council will assemble financing over the coming months with a goal of completing the project late this fall or in early 2027.
Resolution 26-136 was cited as the application to the Kids Recreation Trust grant for the project; staff said if the Kids Recreation Trust funds are awarded, the borough can reduce the amount taken from the athletic field trust. Council did not take final bonding action at the meeting and asked that financing be finalized in coming months.
