County considers using conservation-trust funds for fairgrounds scales; shooting-range plans remain preliminary

Staff informed the board that conservation-trust letters were due next week and suggested that if the board selected the fairgrounds as a project, the funds could be used to pay for scales and similar equipment already purchased.
"If you had decided on the fairgrounds, we can use the money to do the scales," staff said, noting the county would not have to make a separate request within the county group if the fairgrounds were chosen. Commissioners discussed shooting-range needs, possible lottery-fund support, and the planning process; no formal decision was made and staff was asked to gather additional information.
The board flagged timing and permitting issues as follow-up items and will consider the matter at a future meeting when more cost estimates and scope details are available.
