Board reviews lottery-backed conservation trust requests for fairgrounds and shooting range

County staff asked the board to consider several requests for conservation-trust (lottery) funds, including enclosing livestock scales at the fairgrounds and finishing a shooting range project.
Margaret (Speaker 5) said the county currently has roughly $43,992 in the fund and described potential projects: “They are going to ask from the lottery funds, $6,000... to fix this livestock scale... This should not have to come to our lottery fund request because this is something the county would use from here on out.” Commissioners discussed whether to allocate funds directly and were asked to respond before an upcoming application deadline (the 12th) so the fair board and other applicants can finalize requests.
The board did not make a final allocation April 27; members encouraged coordination among the fair board, the sorority group and staff to assemble requests and review the lottery-board recommendations before the board acts on distributions.
