Council questions visual match of Cornell Street brick restoration; engineer cites cost trade-offs

A councilmember asked why the brick restored on Cornell Street appears to contain many different colors and does not match the existing streetscape. "I was wondering why the brick is all different colors... it doesn't really match the street very well," the member said.
Engineer Baker said some removed brick was damaged during excavation and the borough was instructed to use a stockpile of existing brick on borough property to avoid additional cost for bringing new material. He acknowledged that selecting bricks to match more closely would be "very time consuming and cost prohibitive," and said the borough will work with the contractor and, if necessary, the borough's brick-street contractor to address a few areas outside the trench line.
