Crafton engineer outlines sewer repairs, paving schedule and gas main replacement

At the July 23 meeting engineer Scott Baker updated council on multiple infrastructure projects, saying the Broadhead Sewer Separation Project is working on curb and sidewalk restoration on Park Street and is still on track for an October 2026 completion. Baker reported a CCTV inspection found an 8-inch collapsed pipe at Orchard Street and South Grandview; the contracted company (State Pipe) was called to perform emergency full-pipe replacements under the borough’s excavation contract and was expected to begin work on the following Monday. He also said a gas main replacement on West Steuben (from Walsh to the Thornburg Bridge) will be restricted to one lane, 9 a.m.–3 p.m., and follow PennDOT detour restrictions. Brick restoration work (Celente) and the borough road paving project were out to bid, with awards anticipated in late August or early September and an aim to finish paving before the end of the year.
Councilmembers raised workmanship and material concerns about the Cornell Street brick restoration — one member asked why replacement bricks vary in color. Baker said the borough reused an existing stockpile to avoid extra cost and noted selecting closely matching brick would be time-consuming and costly.
