Dawson County holds first hearing on proposed Chapter 109 environmental ordinance updates

At its July 2, 2026 work session the Dawson County Board of Commissioners held the first of two public hearings on proposed amendments to Chapter 109 of the Dawson County Code of Ordinances, which covers trees, landscaping, buffers, erosion control, watershed management and stormwater.
Community Development Director Richard Osborne reviewed the proposed changes and told the board that the last significant revisions to Chapter 109 were made in 2015 and that staff has received input from citizens and county legal counsel on the draft amendments. Chairman Billy Thurmond opened the hearing for public comment and, hearing none, closed it. A second public hearing on the Chapter 109 amendments is scheduled for the board's July 16, 2026 Voting Session.
