During the audience‑comment portion of the July 23 meeting, two residents provided local concerns for council attention. Cole Patterson (645 Emerson Avenue) told council that a business adjacent to his backyard installed an industrial metal fence topped with barbed wire and planted trees that are not being maintained; he said the fence visually reads taller from his yard and raised safety concerns for his young children. "I don't wanna live by the if," Patterson said, describing the stress of the installation and asking the council for advice on what remedies might be available.
John Samuels (261 Fairview Circle) thanked council members for participating in the Eastern Community Cleanup Day and said he had observed increased traffic and several close calls where Route 68 is detoured around a nearby museum, creating pressure on the Hilltop and Fairgrounds intersection. "Three days I've been there this week has been close calls with multiple vehicles out there," Samuels said, asking the council and staff to keep safety in mind while the detour remains in place.
Council thanked both speakers and said staff would follow up: the mayor offered to connect Patterson with planning and code resources; staff said they would monitor the detour intersection.
