Council introduced Resolution 2026‑46 to authorize renewed memoranda of understanding for school resource officers (SROs) with Xenia Community Schools, the Greene County Career Center and a multiparty agreement covering Legacy Christian, Saint Brigid and Summit Academy. Merriman told the council that the city has provided SROs since 2003 and that each agreement had previously been structured with a 60% school / 40% city cost split.
Staff explained the new MOUs document a 65% school / 35% city split based on an average SRO work year (they cited about 1,352 hours dedicated to schools, plus required training) and incorporate additional equipment costs. Merriman said the MOUs also set goals, roles and expectations for the positions and align a three‑year cycle with police union contract renewals. Mayor Reynolds and several council members thanked staff and school partners for negotiating the agreements. The council moved to adopt the resolution introducing the MOUs and carried the motion by roll call.
The resolution authorizes continuation of the shared SRO program under the new cost split; the council did not amend the underlying school contracts during the meeting.
