Neighbors tell planning board recent clearing worsened runoff, ask for surveys and stormwater protections

Residents at the July 22 hearing said recent clearing at a proposed subdivision site has increased runoff and posed safety risks on steep Jeffrey Lane. “I have 3 little kids, and it's already dangerous to play outside,” said Britney (resident, 150 Jeffrey Lane), describing recent storms and visible flows down the road. Multiple speakers said the town’s velocity ditch has not been routinely maintained and urged the board to require more robust stormwater protections and a certified survey before further clearing.

The building inspector, Lee Spencer, told the board he conducted a site inspection, took photographs, and confirmed some clearing had occurred; he said the plat must show survey stakes and minimum cleared areas so staff can verify buildable area, setbacks and stormwater impacts. Staff reported official stakes and an updated setback were placed on the site and told the applicant to provide engineered stormwater solutions and coordinate with the health department on septic and site plans.
