Sheriff warns of cuts to lake and river services as federal funding conflicts reduce local revenue
Summary
Pend Oreille County Sheriff Blakeslee reported four incidents in Metaline Falls and said conflicts with federal funding will shrink Parks & Recreation funding, leaving only about $6,000$8,000 from boat registration fees to fund lake and river services; he said he hopes the issue will be resolved by 2027.

Pend Oreille County Sheriff Blakeslee opened his report by listing four recent incidents in the area (one civil, one juvenile problem and two suspicious-circumstance calls) and said he had spoken with state legislators in Olympia about constituent engagement on pending bills.
Blakeslee warned of an emerging funding problem: a conflict with federal Parks and Recreation funding means the county may only have boat registration fees (reduced to about one-third to one-quarter of prior levels) to support lake and river services, leaving roughly $6,000$8,000 available this year. "There will be a significant loss in services," he said, and added he was "hoping [the] issue will be resolved by 2027."
