Cloud Lake moves to post No Trespassing signs at Preserve to address encampment

After an emailed report about an ongoing homeless encampment, Cloud Lake staff will begin working with Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office on posting No Trespassing signs at the Preserve; formal ratification is scheduled for the March meeting.
Cloud Lake officials said Feb. 12 they will begin the process of placing No Trespassing signs at the Town Preserve to give deputies authority to remove trespassers and camping gear without a town official present.
An emailed report from D/S Jason Ekstrom described "an ongoing matter involving the homeless individuals" at the Preserve and recommended erecting signs under PBSO's Business Partnership Program. "The sign will have the Town of Cloud Lake in 2” letters and an Owner Applied Number (OAN) underneath," the report said, and that OAN would be stored in the PBSO database so deputies could respond without the Town Official being present.
Town Clerk Dorothy Gravelin was authorized to contact PBSO to begin the process and, if the program is approved, to contact a sign vendor. Councilmember Kathleen Hoock volunteered to be the After-Hours Contact and Vice Mayor Marion Chateau-Flagg agreed to serve as the Additional Contact. Town Attorney William P. Doney advised that, because there was no quorum, the actions be placed on the March agenda for ratification.
The plan relies on PBSO's Business Partnership Program to allow deputies to remove trespassers when signage and OAN registration are in place; the council did not take a final vote at the meeting. Next step: staff will initiate contact with PBSO and a sign vendor pending the March 12 council ratification.
