Planning Commission proposes RV/temporary‑sign variances and code updates

Planning Commissioner Mrs. Manley told the council that the commission has been working on an ordinance to address family-hardship requests to allow temporary RV living in limited circumstances; she summarized current code and said that "Currently the city code says you cannot live in an RV in city limits," but that the draft ordinance would create variances for medical or family hardship situations.

Manley also described a signage request from U4 Realty for multiple signs including a proposed 19-by-6-foot façade sign at 354 E. State Street and said flashing lights would not be permitted. She reported that the planning commission is proposing a simplified sign ordinance to replace a lengthy 1999 draft and that legal counsel has updated the building-code references to current standards. Manley suggested a half-hour pre-meeting workshop so councilmembers can ask questions about ordinance drafts before votes.
