Mayor Randall Sasser told the council that public works currently has two staff — one dedicated to the treatment plant and one handling other city duties — and that he will begin hiring one additional employee next week. "We currently have two people in public works, one is dedicated to the treatment plant and the other one is dedicated to everything else within the city," Sasser said, and added the city will reassess staffing after the hire.
Sasser also described a storm-related power outage at the treatment plant that lasted roughly eight hours; while the plant has a generator, "even though the generator starts automatically and runs for 30 minutes, this time it did not start," he said. The council discussed trimming, tree work and other maintenance priorities once staffing is increased.
