Commissioners discussed how a private donation and existing budget lines would cover hiring costs for the additional deputy and for a replacement vehicle. Staff estimated roughly $77,000 available from donations for the balance of the year and said the total first-year obligation could be just under $200,000 if next year's salary is included on the invoice.
The clerk and staff confirmed there remains money in a prior donation account that could fund another vehicle purchase; commissioners asked staff to solicit two bids and return with the figures at the next monthly meeting. "Get a bid, Jim," the chairman instructed; commissioners agreed to consider bids when presented.
Commissioners also asked the clerk and Janelle Combs (document preparer) to confirm invoicing procedures so the county does not exceed donation limits. The commission directed payroll and accounting staff to clarify the invoice approach and to present options at a future meeting.
