Board clears way for Gospel Temple electronic sign, asks for survey and permitting coordination

Pastor Alfred Roberts said the church would prefer to re-use the existing sign location (to save the cost of building a brick monument base) but would build a monument if required. Supporters noted the sign has been in place for decades and that an electronic face would help the congregation share messages with the community. The board approved the variance 5-0 and instructed staff and the applicant to complete the required survey and permit applications; the permit reviewer will confirm whether the sign lies in GDOT right-of-way or county right-of-way and what form of permit and any relocation would be required.
