Commission approves stormwater change orders totaling $135,000 for Brady Drive, Kidwell Ridge and Brights Pike repairs

Staff recommended three additions to change order number 2 to pipe and reroute stormwater: $44,250 for Brady Drive/Jenny Lane new piping, $72,500 for additional work at Kidwell Ridge (including a 24-inch drain adjacent to an existing 40-inch line), and $18,250 to replace an 18-inch pipe under Brights Pike that was too deteriorated to function.
"So that project has actually went up by $72,500," the county engineer said, describing the need to add pipe, headwalls and riprap to address the ponding. Commissioners asked about pipe sizes and placement; staff confirmed the Brights Pike replacement will be an 18-inch pipe and the Kivels/Kidwell Ridge installation will be a 24-inch pipe placed beside a 40-inch line. The commission approved the change orders on a roll call vote.
The work is intended to reduce roadway ponding, protect homeowners' drain fields and prevent future road damage. Staff said the team will cut open the roadway where necessary, replace the failing pipe, compact surrounding rock and repave the affected sections after completing the drainage work.
