Council approves first reading of cannabis zoning ordinance directing retail to Highway B-1

City Administrator Angel Weasner told the council that Ordinance No. 632 would regulate where cannabis retail and non-retail businesses can operate, recommending retail cannabis sales be restricted to the Highway B‑1 business district (Highways 34 and 71 corridors) and non-retail uses be permitted in the industrial park. Weasner said the Planning Commission held a public hearing the previous night and recommended approval.
After brief discussion the council unanimously approved the first reading of Ordinance No. 632. The ordinance will return for subsequent readings and formal adoption as required by the city code and state law before any zoning changes take effect.
